What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is for everyone!
Here at CrossFit District Six, we are committed to improving your quality of life through fitness. We strive to make “exercise” as fun as possible. Let us help you explore and unearth your ability. Start today!
CrossFit is a fitness regimen developed by Greg Glassman over several decades. Glassman, the Founder and CEO, was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. He then created a programme specifically designed to improve fitness and health. The workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometric, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, among other exercises.
The benefits of this form of exercise are so vast and varied that it’s appropriate for all fitness levels. CrossFit will give you whatever benefits you are after, as that is the effort you will put in. If a person wants to become stronger, CrossFit will do that. If a person is an athlete and wants to take their performance up a notch, CrossFit will do that. And if a person’s goal is to live life without feeling sore or encounter any aches and pains as well as improve all-round health, CrossFit will do that!
100 Words of CrossFit
“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.” – Greg Glassman
The 10 fitness domains
“CrossFit is not a specialised fitness programme, but a deliberate attempt to optimise physical competence in each of 10 recognised fitness domains.” – Greg Glassman
